Prakash Narayan, cofounder and CTO at Micello, Inc., had responsibility for Java EE and SOA tooling in NetBeans when he worked at Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Tony Ng is the Senior Director of Engineering at Yahoo! where he is responsible for Yahoo! developer platforms and technologies. He is coauthor of Java Blueprints and J2EE™ Connector Architecture and Enterprise Application Integration (Prentice Hall, 2001).

Dr Kumar is currently the Director at Altius Inc and is responsible for delivering technology based services for corporate clients. Earlier, Dr. Kumar was the Director and Chief Architect at Cognizant Technology Solutions, has an M Tech from IIT Kanpur and Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur. He has over 23 years of experience in the field of Information Technology at various levels and in organizations such as ComputerVision Corporation (Singapore), Parametric Technologies (Seoul, S. Korea), Sun Microsystems (India) and Infosys Technologies Ltd. Prior to initiating Altius Inc, Dr. Kumar was the Director and Chief Architect at the Global Technology Office of Cognizant Technology Solutions (India). He has been working on the Enterprise technology solutions for more than 12 years, particularly focusing on Java, J2EE, Web Services, Service Oriented Architecture, Cloud Computing, AWS, Big Data and Open Source technologies. He has also been working on CMS applications such as Joomla and Drupal and delivering training and services on mobile platforms such as Android and iPhone.

As a Director of Altius Inc, Dr. Kumar is currently focusing on Technology Consultancy, Technology Training & Evangelization, and Community Development and Project Support for the corporate clients.     This book is a good, but VERY BRIEF summary of SOA and surrounding topics. The price tag on this book had me thinking this might be a solid book for implementing SOA using J2EE. The table of contents looks great, but each section is so brief it is quickly a disappointment. Spend your dollars elsewhere.

    This book is not a "how to" to teach readers the Java EE concepts. Rather it is a history of the author's knowledge of the subject.

    As other reviewers have pointed out, the title of the book is very deceptive. Nice work, Marketing! This book is certainly NOT about implementing SOA using Java EE. Anybody interested in that particular topic, please look elsewhere.

    The one area that this book shines though is in being a brief and mostly accurate summary of Java EE. If you are feeling a bit rusty about Java EE and want to get to speed quickly, this book can be a nice afternoon read. I am giving the book 2 stars for the nice and quick summary of Java EE.

    The book made me very disappointment because it only has some summary of Java technologies, does not have useful information about how to implementing SOA using Java EE. It also has some repeating text, and unnecessary RPC history descriptuions. Some text of the book is almost same as Java documents, and looks like the dictionary of Java technologies, there is no useful information. Do not spend your money and time on this book if you need to know how to implement SOA using Java EE.

    Das Buch gibt einen raschen Überblick über die APIs von Java EE 5 und wie das mit SOA zusammenhängt. Ins Detail geht es praktisch nirgends, und wer sowas wie gesammelte Praxiserfahrung sucht, wird auch nicht fündig. Das Thema BPMS/BPEL wird für meinen Geschmack etwas zuviel gewürdigt, weil es eigentlich gar keinen direkten Bezug zu JEE hat.

    Fazit: wenn man einen Überblick über das Thema gewinnen will, ist es ein guter Start. Für Entwickler and Architekten (zumindest solche, die nicht nur im Elfenbeinturm sitzen, sondern in Projekten mitarbeiten) dürfte die Suppe zu dünn sein.
